Biography
Dr. Collins is a scholar and educator whose teaching and research interests center on media and politics, with particular expertise in political communication, Black political behavior, Black media, new media technologies, and political journalism.
Dr. Collins is especially interested in the intersection of cultural journalism and Black political communication. Their work examines how community centered journalism and rhetorical traditions, including the Black oral tradition, can be used to make politics more accessible, engaging, and meaningful for Black youth as well as Black communities more broadly.
Through their teaching and research, Dr. Collins explores the ways media, culture, and political communication shape political knowledge, civic engagement, and participation within Black communities.
